This section of the Audiology Resources website contains details of audiology degrees, from around the world. It is intended as a resource for prospective university students who are looking to study an audiology degree at college, in order to qualify to practice audiology as a career. Audiology is a multidisciplinary medical / health science degree subject which involves the study of hearing, deafness and balance (vestibular systems), as well as areas of physical science such as acoustics, sound / noise. Audiology Degrees in New Zealand The audiology courses offered in New Zealand are primarily masters level (MAud) courses, 2 years in length, if studied on a full-time basis. On completion of the Audiology Masters degree to join the professional organisation in New Zealand (The New Zealand Audiological Society) your studies will need to be followed by a further year (minimum of 11 months) of supervised clinical practice and a clinical exam. Graduates of the masters programmes listed below are accepted as provisional members of the New Zealand Audiological Society with full membership being granted on successful completion of the clinical practice period.
This is a 2 year full-time course. It is split across 2 campus sites the: Grafton Campus and Tamaki Campus. This course is run by the Audiology Department, a part of the School of Population Health, in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland. The Master of Audiology degree offered by the University of Canterbury is a 2-year full-time (or 3-4 year part-time) post-graduate programme. It includes course work, clinical work, and research. A number of departmental scholarships are being offered for this course in 2011, which include full fee reinbursement of $6000. This course is being run by the Department of Communication Disorders, in the College of Science at the University of Canterbury
Please note: due to the multidisciplinary nature of an audiology degree the university department / school which runs the audiology degree, and the university faculty, it belongs to can vary from one university to the next. In some universities the degree is run by a specialist audiology school, or department, whilst in others a school encompansing a broader range of allied subjects runs the degree. These schools / departments include: heathcare science, life sciences, medical sciences, bio-medicine / bio-medical sciences, medicine, speech therapy / linguistics, human communication disorders, psychological sciences / psychology and rehabilitation sciences.
