Higher Training Scheme - HCCC
Here is a quick question for trainee audiologists out there who are about to complete their degrees or in their final year.
Is the ability to develop professionally outside simply the standard CPD process important to you, and would the ability to train further be an important factor in influencing the jobs you apply for?
I would welcome as many responses as possible so please don't worry if you repeat what someone else has said.

Hi christopher
I am a qualified audiologist, I wanted to do the MSc /CAC but couldnt get a funded place - as i have to stay local and my local group were very negative about a traditional route audiologist applying, and then i had high hopes for the HCCC but then the problem is that my work place doesnt want to support me as i may then want a payrise promotion and looking in the job listings band 6 posts i've seen also are not willing to support it as part of a job description -- what to do? The HCCC seems to be something only the lucky few will get to do..

Floof, what support are you looking for from your department. The financial support or the training time???

the training time - i'm happy to self fund -- encoragement would be nice too, at the moment I am seen as impatient, as I am always asking to do more and wanting to do it , self funding whatever i can afford... the problem with that is there is little experience attached afterwards, even though the likes of ERA work happens everyday in our department... If I could do the HCCC's independantly from my department I'd do them in a heartbeat.
I get the impression that a HCCC within the department will only happen if your in a post and the department develops a new practice and you are selected to do that work, rather that being inpost and wanting to do it for your own knowledge

hi there
now that there are 50 people signed up to the Higher Training Scheme, and the first exams have been sat (and passed) I was wondering what people's opinions on the scheme were? i'm registered for the teaching and learning module, and getting on ok, although it is taking longer than I thought it might (but that's mainly due to local reasons!!)
any one else got any thoughts or comments?
thanks

hi penny,
it's been a year since you posted this comment so I hope that your HTS module is still going well. I've found similar problems with the scheme taking longer than expected (due to local reasons again)...
I'm working as a full-time audiologist and doing clinical modules on the HTS part-time. As the CAC is being replaced with the HTS now, I wonder are we still getting audiologists registering (and managing to complete the HTS)?? I've personally found the flexibility of the 'no deadline' useful but equally very frustrating when trying to complete a clinical logbook with not much allocated clinical or study training time!!
regards,
irene
