MSc Audiology 2011
Does anyone know about the changes to postgrad entry into Audiology for 2011 yet?
Applications for UCL, Manchester and Southampton are open from October but no one seems to know what the new course is about and if there are NHS funded clinical scientist positions anymore.

MSc Audiology 2011
Hey guys,
Just wondering how people found their MSc at UCL, Southampton and Manchester? Did you enjoy the course or were there some things which weren't so good? Any advice on choosing a Uni would be wonderful
Thank you!

MSc Audiology 2011
Just wondering if anyone has done the MSc Audiology without getting the funded CCC year? Did you find your own placement afterwards? Any advice on how to do that?
Thank you!

Ello.
To answer some of the questions...
MSc Course:
In Southampton the staff are all great, good facilities and a nice University campus. The town is like any other small to medium town, maybe a bit rougher.
I did the PgDip (and converted to Masters) - I know a few people who didn't have a placement who managed to get one, this was sometimes due to people dropping out and in other cases centres being willing to take on the trainee - though I don't think they pay for exams / registration etc. I was very fortunate to be offered a place on the HTS after I finished though.
Hope that helps.
I lived in Manchester for my undergrad for three years though and absolutely loved it, I think it's my favourite city in the UK, it just has a great vibe about it.

Hi Jenny,
I did the MSc in Southampton a few years ago and finished without having a CCC or CAC placement to go to. I basically had to apply for any band 4 or 5 jobs available and eventually got offered a band 5 position who said they would arrange training for me. I registered on the HTS clinical modules as it's more flexible than CAC but it is taking a very long time to complete things (3years on and I'm still struggling to finish the 3 modules).
When I applied for the MSc, I was offered the PGDip and MSc and was wrongly advised to accept the MSc. If I accepted the PGDip, I would have had a guaranteed CCC placement, but still able to do the research bit of it to get the MSc. So my advice would be accept the PGDip, if you get a trainee scientist post then if the university has already offered you an MSc place, they are unlikely to retract that.
Also, things are changing with the way the MSc is run so although many of my classmates were successful in obtaining training posts after their MSc. It now looks like the scheme is not accepting people who have already done the MSc, which would mean you'd not be able to apply next year, having done the MSc....!
Southamptom was great for the MSc. But Manchester is supposed to be very good also.
Hope that helps

MSc Audiology
Hey guys,
Thanks for your responses. Much appreciated. Everything is changing this year and they aren't doing the PGDip anymore just the MSc + clinical year and only Manchester has these positions not Southampton. I didn't apply to UCL in the end as everyone I talked to who had done the MSc there said it was really bad. Anyone have a different opinion about UCL?
Fingers crossed for a position this year
