I cannot think of a great statistics book to recommend but I'm sure there are some out there. Good luck in your search.

This Wesbite may be of some interest.

I like books by Douglas Altman - very practical and useful focus on medical research

Practical Statistics for medical research /Altman
    http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=v...cal+book&psp=1

Statistics with confidence/ Altman, Machin et al (eds)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Statistics-C.../dp/0727913751

    or try
An introduction to medical statistics/ Martin Bland
    http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~mb55/intro/introcon.htm

    Links have sample text/reviews etc.

    Good luck

Are you using SPSS computer software for your stats?

If so, i found this book very helpful with my stats assignments and final year project Field A. (2005) Discovering Statistics Using SPSS (2nd Ed) SAGE Publications.

Just throwing up another thanks to this thread, I'm going to try some of the books above and see if they can ease me into statistics over the next few weeks, I really want to convert my PGdip into the masters and I'll definitely need to be getting up to speed on stats. I've just made friends with a guy doing masters stats though so I might swap a pint for some tuition at some stage ;D
