Forum Rules & Other Important Stuff

Audiology Discussions is a specialist international audiology forum for professionals working in audiology related areas, as well as for audiology students. The objectives of the forum are to facilitate audiology discussions to occur between like-minded professionals across the world.

Important things to remember when posting on the forum are as follows:

Forum Rules
  • no bad language or insulting personal remarks to others (so please be respectful to all other people on the forum at all times)

  • no remarks to identify patients (locations, names etc)

  • no advertising (items for sale / wanted, services, jobs, courses etc) - outside the ‘noticeboard / bulletin-board area’ of the forum. You can only post in this bit of the forum if you are registered with at least member status

  • no duplicate / multiple postings of same content in different forums (areas) - don’t put the same post in more than one place, this will result in the replies being split and people being confused about where to answer

  • no consecutive posts on same topic – if you have submitted a post and then remember you have forgotten to write something please use the edit feature to add an update to your post instead of putting in a new post straight after your previous one

  • no posts void of new content – please refrain from adding posts which have no relevant content and just say, 'me too' etc just on their own with no other information. Please do not knowingly add just a copy of the information given, in another post or page on this website, without any additional useful information. If you have nothing much to say on a certain matter then please don't post

  • external links can only be used in relevant posts – website links must be audiology related and relevant to the discussion in the post

  • website links should not be given without a description of their content – if you are linking to a website containing information that you think others should read - please give a least a short summary of the what's on the website that you are linking to, so if the web pages are removed (deleted) in the future (as they often are), at least there will be some information left in the post, showing what was being linked to.

  • if and when guest posting is made available, guest posters must be audiology professionals – if you are not a member and you are posting as a guest / visitor, if and when and where such posts are permitted, you must still be an audiology related: professional, student or retired-professional and you must still abide by the forum rules

  • all posts must be clearly written in the English language – please only write posts in good English so everyone can understand what you have written (if you really need to use a different language then please also give a translation). Please try to avoid text-speech where possible as not everyone will understand what you have written.

Forum Etiquette
Acknowledge useful replies. If you have received a reply to a question you have posted, remember to reply back to it in order to say whether it is useful or whether you need anymore information (otherwise you may not get any more replies from others to your current or future posts).

Do not use all capital letters for whole titles or posts
. All letters in capitals is often considered as shouting on websites / forums / blogs. Also for anyone who is visually impaired and using a screen reader to read the posts this will result the message text being transcribed (read-out) letter-by-letter rather than in real speech / words. (Having just one capital letter at the front of each word in a title or for a sentence is alright.)

Use Meaningful Titles Where Possible
Keep the titles of posts short as possible but meaningful, as people may not be bothered to click open your post to view its content if the title contains just one word and / or is very vague, as to what the content is. Ask yourself if I saw this title on its own would I know what it is about.

Considerate use of External Links
If possible please do not give links to web-pages which require a username and password (subscription) to view the content, unless you can give a very good summary of the content given on the page you are linking to. As it should be taken in to consideration that not everyone who is using this forum may be able to be able to afford the subscriptions to such a website or even qualify to join the website as it may be limited to certain countries or certain types of audiology professionals.

(P.S. Forum management may change or optimise the title of a post if it does not reflect the content, or even move the post to a different forum area if it is not placed in the best area to reflect its content. In addition any website links or other details given by members in their profile or signature settings will be reviewed and removed if deemed unsuitable.)
