Caloric irrigation and syncope
I was viewing the BSA recommended contraindications for Caloric irrigation and was surprised to see that history of loss of consciousness with symptoms is not one of them. I was always under the impression that this was one of them. I have noted that precautions to Hallpike testing is recommended with syncope but no mention about calorics.
If the loss of consciousness has not been investigated and therefore a heart condition cannot necessarily be ruled out surely it is advisable to not perform caloric irrigation?
